About Kellie

As a native of Ottawa, Kellie recently received her Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Specialization in Communication after attending the University of Ottawa for five years. Throughout her five years, Kellie was a member and captain of the women’s varsity basketball team. Most of Kellie’s experience with digital media has been concentrated in the area of athletics, where she worked for University of Ottawa Sports Services and for Canadian Interuniversity Sport.

One of Kellie’s favourite courses at the University of Ottawa required her to create a blog; something she was extremely passionate about (you can follow her on Instagram @whats.ringing).

Kellie hopes to gain a more thorough understanding of digital media and digital marketing to be able to apply her increased knowledge in the hospitality, sports, event hosting and entertainment industries. Her passions beyond sport include photography, fashion and cooking, and she hopes to be able to apply these passions with her love for digital media. Along with completing her master’s, Kellie will be playing for the women’s basketball team at Ryerson and is excited about the opportunity to develop her skills and passions in the digital media world. 

Project Abstract

When athletes are given the self-control to present their brands on social media platforms, are they conforming to traditional media's expectations? 963 posts from professional tennis players were analyzed on the Instagram platform to answer the following questions: how do they present their brands? are there any differences between genders? and what do the engagement rates tell us?
